About half of men today have gynecomastia or excess fat or tissue in one or both their breast. In some cases it could be related to hormones or medication but in mostly the reasons are unknown. Although there is no known health risk related to gynecomastia, it can be very humiliating and embarrassing especially among young boys. True gynecomastia will not improve with diet and exercise; it can usually be corrected with liposuction. Most male breast reduction procedures are done by liposuction through the areola or underarm area. If the patient’s gynecomastia is severe sometimes a breast reduction mammaplasty procedure is required.
